Our Partners

Founded in 2009, The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) works with partners to build a sustainable future for the Hualien-Taitung (Huatung) area.  We focus on five areas – redefining education and empowering the youths, educators, indigenous communities, inspiring talents, nurturing existing businesses; and we hope to uplift the education of rural Huatung, and empower its youths to envision the possibility of a different future.

In a pristine area inhabited primarily by natives, we empower the youths by taking the lead in experimental education, we empower the educator by supporting reformers as well as give opportunity for re-education, we inspire talents by creating diverse learning atmospheres through thematic camps, we empower the indigenous communities by providing opportunity for further education, we build a future for the people of Huatung by nurturing existing businesses to help provide employment opportunities and reduce rural and urban migration.

We are an Alliance that works with partners and organizations to help achieve highest social impact by integrating the right resources to the right projects.  (Website)

The vision of Junyi Academy Education Foundation is to help every child reach their potential. Every child can adopt their own learning methods and learn at their own pace. With the passionate heart of the educator and the guidance of their parents, children are encouraged to explore the unknown and discover their talents.

Our mission is to care for the disadvantaged and to use technology to solve societal problems. We want to provide disadvantaged children with an equal opportunity to learn happily and passionately, develop their talents, and have the opportunity to shine on a global stage. Using the knowledge of technology, Junyi Academy Education Foundation strives to provide an innovative and efficient pathway of teaching and learning for both educators and learners.

Junyi Academy Education Foundation has developed an online learning platform (www.junyiacademy.org)  that strives to create customized teaching tools for educators and to provide children a fair learning opportunity with personalized learning experiences. Currently, Junyi Academy Education Foundation has more than 1,150,000 registers and 45,000 weekly active users and is now the biggest online learning platform in Taiwan. (Website)

Since its founding, The Alliance Cultural Foundation (ACF) has worked to build sustainable development in the remote Hualien-Taitung (Huatung) region of Taiwan. With education at the root of lasting change, ACF founded the Junyi School of Innovation (Junyi Experimental High School) in Taitung. Recognizing that the key problem of education in the remote stems from the discrepancy of teaching resources available, Junyi School of Innovation hopes to redefine education and break through the traditional education system and its emphasis on examination results.

Junyi School of Innovation believes in developing the youth in not only academics, but the arts, humanities, as well as good character, values, independent thinking in a bilingual multi-cultural environment. In an era that offers immediate access to information, we strive to inspire the youth through connected learning, internationalized curriculum, whilst integrating Waldorf education’s humanistic approach. One-third of our secondary school students receive financial aid, and come from some of the most remote indigenous villages of the Huatung region. We believe they are the seeds of hope for the future of Huatung. (Website)

April 2000, Ci-Xin Waldorf School (Anthroposophy Education Foundation), the pioneer Waldorf school of Taiwan was founded. Once a kindergarten that taught using traditional Taiwan education methods, Founder and educator Su Chang, who had searched years for a more humanistic, liberal way of education discovered and introduced the Waldorf method into the school. To date, we continue to work with organizations and partners in the education reform movement to together form different ideals and approach to education.

Our mission is to realize the ideals of anthroposophy and to build a community that bears mutual care and goals through educational reform and renewal. We hope to continue to introduce the education enlightened by anthroposophical ideals, to continue to improve the k-12 Waldorf education in Ci-Xin as well as across Taiwan, to offer a Waldorf teacher's training program that is privately-administered instead of state-governed, to promote the education of caring for our land, to nurture culture in light of anthroposophy, as well as to enable an eco-friendly, collaborated and harmonious community that merges learning and living. In 2014, we had the first group of secondary school graduates; from humble beginnings of 5 students and 7 teachers, the school now has over 1000 students and 100 faculty members. Chengzhi Education Foundation, a non-profit organization in Taiwan, was founded by Shinjou Fang in 2011 after he retired from the IC industry. Chengzhi’s mission is to help the disadvantaged children in Taiwan by providing an equal and best learning opportunity. Through using scientific methods and tools to reform Taiwanese education, to seek truth from facts, to help the weak first. Our ultimate goal is to extend our belief to the whole country, and to save the country through science.

To achieve the goal, we licensed software from Khan Academy in 2012 and developed Junyi Academy, www.junyiacademy.org, a Chinese online learning platform. Junyi Academy, like Khan, is and will be free to all. We now have 10,000+ videos and 40,000+ exercises, 1,000,000 registrants (more than a quarter of total Taiwan K-12 students) with 45,000 weekly active users during school seasons. We have 20+ full time employees and more than 50 volunteers (mostly teachers).

To help students gain knowledge and build up critical thinking skills, we recognized the great impact of “non-cognitive skills” on both children’s learning and future achievement, especially for those at-risk children. After visiting several KIPP schools in 2015~2016, we were inspired by KIPP’s success and its motto of “Work Hard. Be Nice”. We opened three charter schools in Taiwan in August 2017. We called these schools KIST -- KIPP Inspired Schools in Taiwan.

During this period, we came to the conclusion that managing an online learning platform is very different from managing charter schools. Therefore, our board decided to spin off the Junyi Academy team into a separate foundation, the Junyi Academy Education Foundation, at the beginning of 2018, and Chengzhi Education Foundation is now focusing on operating KIST charter schools.

We believe that only high quality education can change the fate of children in the remote areas and that teachers play the most important role in education. Many of our teachers are young, inexperienced but hard-working, therefore, we encourage them to study innovative and effective teaching methods.
